Companies for electronics put a lot of effort into making realistic 3d projections to put the virtual in the real world. Light beings is a development project to use light-beams as animated 3d building material. In a dark environment with smoke in the air light beams seem to become solid. This effect makes it possible to build structures from light beams. By moving and sequencing the light sources the structures become dynamic. Some years ago i started the project: Light Beings. With lasers and focussed light beams i sculpted insects, quadrupeds and bipeds. At first i programmed these beings to interact with each other and tell a story. Later i started to use live inputs like beat detection. A bold experiment became an interactive system where a giant humanoid laser being could duplicate the movement of a person in realtime. This light avatar is known as Big Jim. The latest acquisition is a remote controlled laser spider that "walks" with lasers legs.
